Programmer Workstation Setup: 7 Mistakes That Make You Feel Tired Sooner
A programmer’s working day is rarely limited to a couple of hours at the computer. A code editor, browser, documentation, work chats and video calls mean that most of the day is spent focusing on one or more screens.
The computer may be powerful, the chair comfortable and the monitor expensive, yet by the evening you can still feel tired, want to stretch your neck and shoulders, or find yourself constantly changing position at the desk. Here are seven common workstation setup mistakes programmers make, along with practical ways to create a more comfortable setup.

Mistake 1: The Monitor Is Too Low or Too High
If the screen is too low, you naturally start dropping your head and leaning towards the desk. If the monitor is too high, you have to lift your chin and look upwards.
At first, this posture may not cause any obvious discomfort. During long working sessions, however, you can hold it for hours — especially when you are focused on code and barely notice how you are sitting.

Mistake 5: Using a Laptop as a Full-Time Workstation
Remote work often starts with a laptop on an ordinary desk or kitchen table. That can be perfectly adequate for a short task, but over longer sessions the limitations quickly become apparent.
For regular work, it is better to add:
- a separate keyboard;
- a mouse;
- an external monitor;
- a laptop stand.
